Stroud Trail Marathon 2014
Welcome to this new event, a great trail Marathon in the heart of the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire. Your run will be taking in a mixture of local trails and hills, famous Towpaths, disused Railway Tracks, nationally acclaimed Commonland and of course the amazing views on the Cotswold Edge all in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The 2014 Stroud Trail Marathon and Half Marathon will start and finish on Kendrick Street by the Stroud Town Hall (aka The Subscription Rooms). The race HQ for the weekend will be Batemans Sports Shop.
Your marathon route begins with a short circuit of the Town Centre, before heading under the Railway Bridge and onto the Thames/Severn Canal Path towards Stonehouse, via Ebley Mill.
At Ryeford the route leaves the towpath and begins the ascent on the Old Cotswold Way up onto Selsley Common, a climb of about 600ft. Once at the top the trails head through Pen & Staney Woods and out to Coaley Peak.
From here begins a 3 mile descent into Woodchester Park, passing the famous haunted Mansion and out into South Woodchester and the Nailsworth Valley on the disused Railway Path.
About a mile later the next 600ft ascent up onto Minchinhampton Common and across to Rodborough Common and Rodborough Fort.
The route now takes a steep descent from Rodborough Common towards Stroud, under the Railway Viaduct and onto the Thames/Severn Canal Path.
Note: This is where the Marathon and half marathon Route go different ways. The Half Marathon route heads West along the Towpath and into the Town Centre.
The Marathon heads East and along the Golden Valley towards Chalford. At Brimscombe the course leaves the towpath and heads into Toadsmoor Valley and across to Chalford Hill.and on to Bisley. From here the footpaths lead to the top of Stroud for a 1.5 Mile descent to the Finish line
