Southville RC's Nightingale Nightmare 10k returned for its third running on Sunday 1st November and was bigger, better and spookier than ever before. The event sold out weeks in advance, and 182 runners completed the course for a record turnout.

Marshals and runners alike wore an array of amazing costumes and the competitors braved graveyards, vampire lairs and spider grottos on their way through Leigh Woods - in addition to the mud, trails and the lung-sapping hill that gives the event its name. Everything from the Grim Reaper's health and safety briefing to the mass Thriller dance as pre-race warm-up made it a Halloween event to remember. There was once again an abundant supply of free cake to greet the runners back at our new HQ, Ashton Park School.

The winners were: (full results at www.nightingalenightmare.co.uk)

Congratulations to all runners and many thanks to all the organisers, volunteers, marshalls, cake-bakers and everyone else who made the event happen. We expect next year to sell out again, so watch this space!
