Excellent day's running at the Hemington 10km today organised by Hemington Primary School. The course is undulating with long but not too steep hills with a 750m bridleway splitting the tarmac sections to add interest. The weather became gloriously sunny to make the Somerset countryside look pretty lovely.

Matt Burns mastered the day the best of the 6 Southville Runners, romping home first, just ahead of ex Southville Runner Charlotte Green now running for Bristol and West. Simon Cardinell 5th and Paul Deaton backed up Matt to take the team prize of wine - more on that later. The rest of Team Southville toddled home in 16th ( Chris Hopes), 17th ( Gary Jennings) and 18th (Mike Karthauser) places.

Matt received the traditional flowers as his first prize , lovely lilies. The team prize was a bit of a disaster though. Due to Paul Deaton entering as SRC rather than Southville Running Club he wasn't included in the team so Chris Hopes and Simon Cardinell got the wine along with Matt Burns. But as Simon had disappeared off, Paul got his just rewards. To add insult to injury, Chris dropped the wine on the way home.

A race worth doing... but a few lessons to be learned. Enter races as Southville Running club not SRC ( there's Sweatshop Running club too) and don't leave a race before the prize giving, you just never know - I might drop and break your prize.
