Launching Saturday April 2 2016

What is it?

We love parkrun! You love parkrun! parkrun is awesome! It’s hard to make parkrun better but we’re having a go...

The first Saturday of the month is already the official Southville Running Club monthly run at Ashton Court parkrun (parkrun is a free 5k run starting every Saturday at 9am). But to encourage participation and to motivate runners to improve their times on the hill we’ve decided to create the SRC parkrun Prize. Ooh!

For more information on Ashton Court parkrun, or to register for your free barcode if you don’t have one, click here - http://www.parkrun.org.uk/ashton-court/. NB: you MUST have a printed barcode when you run otherwise you won’t receive a time.

Who is this for?

This is for everyone at SRC, whether you can run a super fast 5k in 20 minutes or you run/walk a 5k in 45 minutes. This is because the points are based on the official parkrun age grade system (see https://support.parkrun.com/hc/en-us/articles/200565263-What-is-age-grading-).

After the parkrun, we will find all registered Southville runners in the official results and record your age grade for that week in our fancy spreadsheet: ie the faster you run the higher your percentage, but relative to your age.

How to take part?

Just like parkrun, there is no fee to enter. It’s just for fun. You don’t need to register that you are taking part in the competition with anyone at SRC.

Sign up at parkrun for your free barcode; list Southville Running Club as your club; and run as many of the SRC parkruns (first Saturday of each month) as you can.

If for some reason you don’t want to be included in this competition then just let us know.

What about volunteers?

If you would rather volunteer, you can still take part. SRC members who volunteer at Ashton Court parkrun on the first Saturday of the month will receive the average percentage score from all SRC runners on that particular week. If you volunteer one or more times during the 12 month period, you also get a 5% credit on your annual score.

How are the results calculated?

We will pick your best three age grades over the year, calculate the average of those three - and this is your final total. In the interest of fairness, runners with fewer than three SRC parkruns over the year won't be included (sorry). But if you have completed 3-12 SRC parkruns we will calculate the average of the number of times you have run. This means that if you run 10 times, but you had an off-day one time, you won’t be penalised in the points competition. Whoever has the highest average percentage is the winner. Simple.
