Southville RC Newsletter October 2023

Hi Everyone,

Hi viz rule now in effect

As our runs are now mostly in darkness, hi viz is now mandatory for all Tuesday and Thursday runs and will remain so until the clocks go forward in spring. Hi viz means some combination of fluorescent clothing, reflective strips and flashing lights. White and yellow clothing is not hi viz.

Thanks for keeping your fellow runners safe.

Social news - Christmas Party tickets now on sale

A big thanks to Sophie Patten for organising last week's New Member's social.

October's big social event will of course be the Nightingale Nightmare on Sunday October 29th. We've got several tables booked at the Tobacco Factory on North Street to unwind after the race is done and dusted. (Keeping your makeup and costume on and terrifying the other patrons is heavily encouraged.)

We still need more volunteers to put on the event, so to make sure you don't miss out on all the Halloween fun, head to the Facebook page or
email us.

And not long after that, it'll be Christmas party season, and the Steam Crane is now booked for our 2023 Christmas Party! Join us for our annual festive shindig on Friday December 1st.

Dressing up is encouraged, who doesn’t love an excuse not to wear high vis and Lycra!

Nibbles will be provided

Tickets are available
on Eventbrite.

New Club Welfare Officer

We now have a dedicated email address for any welfare issues within the club. If you have any concerns, issues, problems or complaints, you can email
welfare@southvillerunningclub.co.uk. Anything sent will remain confidential. The only people to see it will be:
Lead Welfare Officer: Teresa Oakes
Welfare Officer: Tony Myers

Parkrun news

As always, the first Saturday of the month will see a big SRC turnout at Ashton Court, which this month is Saturday 7th October.

But this one's special as we'll be celebrating Halloween early! To help our last places in the Nightingale Nightmare 10k sell out, we'll be wearing fancy dress to create a big impression (and because dressing up is fun any time of the month).

And as always this will be followed by our parkrun tourism day: this month we're heading to
Quaker's Walk, Devizes, on Saturday 21st October. There's likely to be coffee and breakfast to follow, and there will be lots of people sharing lifts, so join the Facebook group if you're looking for a lift or can offer one.

Parkrun is a free weekly timed race that takes place every Saturday 9am all across the country - but the first Saturday of the month is when we aim for a big Southville turnout at Ashton Court. We also designate another Saturday in the month as our parkrun tourism day.
